Running is an essential part of my fitness regime, but I’m no marathon runner. I like to run short distances frequently, i.e. 2-3 miles, 3-4 times a week depending on whether or not my dancing knees are up for it. I have kept this up for about three years, but before that running was just a cute theory.
For me, the essential part to developing a love for running was the time of day. I play a NBA cheerleader on a VH1 show called Hit The Floor. The rehearsals and shoot days are long and absolutely grueling on the body. To get my blood pumping before work I started going on morning walks. These walks turned into walk/jogs, turned into jogs and even jog/sprints. I wove the practice into my morning essentials: wake up, bathroom, coffee, lace up running shoes, brush teeth, go. It became habitual and I performed better at work. Give it a try. If you’re not a morning person try make it a post-work must do.
