The other day I looked into my neighbor’s yard and noticed this tree dripping with kumquats. Maybe it’s because I grew up in Minnesota where kumquat trees aren’t a thing, but I had never eaten one raw. I took it upon myself to investigate.
Sweet and tangy, I’m addicted. The pulp is sort of sour and there is the occasional seed. The skin is subtly sweet. You can eat them whole or squeeze out the juice, seeds and pulp and just eat the peel. Like other citrus, Kumquats are packed with vitamin C, A and E. The eatable peel makes the fruit unique providing a bonus source of anti-oxidants and fiber.
I can’t wait to get cooking with these things.
